Discovering Waldorf Preschool and the Importance of Play

Walk Through the Classes
Thursday, October 9, 2014
9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

We are now taking RSVPs for our first walkthrough of the year!  Our Dean of Education, Lisa McCarthy, will take a small group of parents into each of our classrooms (preschool through 5th grade) to observe for a short time while the classes are in session.  Afterwards, there will be time for questions and discussion.  Current and prospective families are welcome to attend, but space is limited so please RSVP (562-434-8200 or info@maplevillageschool.org)!  Walkthroughs are for adults only.

Parent Education Class begins soon!  This 8-week class is open to anyone who would like to discuss the joys and challenges of this adventure called parenthood; you do not need to be enrolled in our school to enroll in the session.  See the flyer below for more details.

Step Into Waldorf Preschool

What is a Waldorf Preschool? 6:00-6:30

Come and find out what a Waldorf Preschool is and how it differs from a

Waldorf Kindergarten and mainstream programs. We will talk about the role

of circle, cooking and storytelling, and imitation in early childhood.

The Magical World of Play in the Waldorf Curriculum 6:30-7:30

Play has a crucial importance in the Waldorf preschool. We will cover some

practical insights about play and ways to best facilitate play in order to

support the developing young child. We will also look at how the role of play

is unique in Waldorf Education.

This event is open to all who are interested!  Donation-based childcare is available with Ms. Mele, our assistant preschool teacher.  Please let us know if you intend to use childcare.  Contact us if you have any questions and we’ll see you on Tuesday!

Hello friends,

We are pleased to announce our next Walk Through the Classes event on Friday, January 10th, 2014.  The walkthrough will begin at 9:30am and last until 10:30am or so, and is for adults only (babes in arms who are not walking/crawling are also ok).  We welcome all interested adults to come visit our classes in session and talk about Maple Village with our Pedagogical Administrator, Christina Sbarra.  There will be plenty of time for questions and application materials will be available.

Painting is one of the only times during the week that the children are not allowed to talk.  We tell them to listen to the color.  It is amazing to see the children silent and fully absorbed in the process.

The children have been amazing helpers in the classroom. They are using their sweet voices to sing our meal blessings and using golden polite words for asking and receiving at the table.

Maple Village School is Hiring!

We are seeking the following positions for the 2013-2014 school year:

Preschool Lead Teacher
Kindergarten Assistant
Spanish Teacher
Eurythmy Teacher (4 classes per week)
Morning Care Teacher (immediate opening)

We invite you to join us as we continue to grow.  This coming fall we will add Grade Four to our current programs, which include Parent/Toddler classes, Bridge, Preschool, Kindergarten, and Grades One through Three.  We plan to build a full K-8 elementary school and to pursue AWSNA accreditation.  Currently we are a Developing Member of the Waldorf Early Childhood Association (WECAN). Though small, our community features an active parent body, a committed board and supportive faculty and staff.

Ideal candidates will have a pioneering spirit and a passion for spreading the dream of Waldorf education.  In addition, candidates will either have or be seeking full Waldorf teacher certification.  Teaching experience, strong self-direction, and a joyful spirit are highly desirable.  These are a part-time positions.

We are located in Belmont Heights, an idyllic residential neighborhood in east Long Beach.  The area is a quiet gem in Los Angeles County: walkable, diverse, close to the beach and not congested.

This is your chance to see all of our classes in action!  We will lead a small group of interested adults around to step into each of our classrooms while they are in session.  Observed classes will include Preschool, Kindergarten, Grade One, and Grade Two & Three.  There will be time before and after the observations to talk with our Administrator and ask questions.
